Easy Garlic Bread Recipe

The simplest method for making the best garlic bread is simply rubbing a cut clove of garlic over toasted slices of Italian or French bread and spreading the toast with olive oil or butter.

 Crispy toasted garlic bread

Crispy, toasted garlic bread is cut in half lengthwise, spread with butter and garlic, and baked open-faced in the oven. For added crispiness, broil it at the end.

Soft garlic bread

Soft garlic bread is accordion-sliced (cut as if cutting slices, but don't go all the way through), then the butter mixer is slathered between the slices. Wrap the bread in foil and bake it. This will keep the bread soft while infusing each slice with garlicky butter.

Ingredients

  1. 1 16-ounce (450 g) loaf of Italian bread or French bread
  2.  1/2 cup (1 stick, 112 g) unsalted butter, softened
  3. 2 large cloves garlic, smashed and minced
  4.  1 heaping tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley

Methods

TOASTED GARLIC BREAD, METHOD 1

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. Make the garlic bread:  Cut the loaf horizontally in half. In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic, and parsley. Spread the butter mixture on the two bread halves.

1. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes: Heat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes on a sturdy baking pan (one that can handle high temperatures, not a cookie sheet).

2. Top with Parmesan cheese (optional) and broil: Remove the pan from the oven. If desired, top the bread with Parmesan cheese. Return to the oven on the top rack. Broil for 2-3 minutes on high heat, or until the edges of the bread begin to toast and the cheese (if using) bubbles. Become charred.

    3. Remove from oven and set aside for a minute to cool. Remove from pan and cut into 1-  inch thick slices with a bread knife. Serve right away.

SOFT GARLIC BREAD, METHOD 2


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the butter, garlic, and parsley mixture as directed above.
  3. Insert the bread slices with the butter mixture:
  4. Make 1-inch thick slices into the bread, but only all the way to the bottom crust. Place a teaspoon or two of the garlic butter mixture between each slice of bread, or between every other slice if you only want the garlic mixture on one side.
  5. While broiling, keep a close eye on it. Untoasted bread can quickly
  6. Wrap the garlic bread in aluminum foil and place it in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 15 minutes, or until the butter has melted and the bread is warmed.
Soft garlic Bread

 Serve:

Remove the loaf from the foil and wrap it in a clean tea towel to serve. To eat, cut off slices.
